Our mission at Austin Montessori School (AMS) is to guide the development of each child towards their full and unknown potential. We cultivate compassion and respect, independence and belonging, and freedom and self-discipline, in rich academic and social environments that honor the complementary needs of the individual and the community. We provide an educational setting that is inclusive, recognizes the authentic nature of the child, and nurtures a reverence for the natural order of the universe.

Starting in 2023, AMS officially launched its “Joy in Motion” program to more deeply integrate our commitment to cultivate opportunities for children to fully develop their fundamental movement skills in developmentally appropriate ways. Kelly Jarrell, Movement & Sports Coordinator, partners with both guides and children to provide joyful ways to explore, experience, and expand physical literacy for all in varied ways so that all children and youth can connect to Joy in Motion.

Our programming includes fundamental movement development, sports dynamics and development, nature exploration, and artistic expression through movement. Kelly provides frameworks for movement experiences, guidance, and a prepared environment for students to build on past experiences and integrate their learning with important lessons about relationships, teamwork, problem-solving, sportsmanship, and community. The Joy in Motion program creates an essential medium that expands our community’s practice of our mission.

One of the many things I love about being a part of the Montessori Sports community is the connection with schools and coordinators literally around the world. The collaboration and support are tremendous among those who participate. I am available to share more about my journey in building our Joy in Motion program with anyone who is interested.
